Art

In grade seven, students are given the option of participating in either the Creative Arts or Band programs. Students choosing the Creative Arts program will explore a half a year in art and half a year in drama. In grades eight and nine, students choose one of these arts disciplines and study it for the full school year.

Throughout their three years in the Chief Peguis art program, students are provided with educational experiences intended to develop their knowledge and abilities in three curriculum areas; visual awareness, art production and art appreciation.

Students will experiment with a variety of art techniques and mediums including painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture and digital art.  Projects and lessons are designed for student success at all levels and enrichment opportunities or self-directed projects are available. Students are evaluated on quality, concentration and creativity.

In art, students learn by doing. We continually strive to put forth our best effort while developing our artistic voice, art skills and individual creative expression.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” – Pablo Picasso
