Take a Walk on the Northeast Pioneer Greenway - This is what you'll see!
Kids in room 9 as well as some grade 5 students at Donwood School worked very hard to plant flowers and other prairie plants along the Northeast Pioneer Greenway along Raleigh Street. We spent our whole day planting nature that was destroyed during all the construction in our community. This helps our environment because we brought native plants back. This is important because prairie plants are sustainable, they last all winter long, their deep roots help break down the soil which helps with composting and attracts bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other neat insects and animals. Now when you walk by, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful plants which will start blooming now that it's spring.
This is a picture of a Prairie Crocus that Paul Mutch, a photographer from the City of Winnipeg took. It's one of the species we planted so the Northeast Pioneer Greenway would look and feel good. We are proud that we made a difference in our community. We want other kids and adults to know that they too can make a difference!
