On Thursday, February 19, Grade 7 students took part in a celebration of learning and culture.  JWG welcomed Elder Wanbdi Wakita and drummer, Black Wolf Hart and his tiny, hoop dancing daughter, Riley, to celebrate with us in new and exciting ways.  Students participated in 8 stations throughout the day: Tipi Teaching, Drums & Dance, Snowshoes & Shooshers, Beads & Braids, 7 Sacred Teachings, Paddles of JWG, Koot-a-wan Café and Indigenous Games.  They tried everything from sculpting to throwing a snow snake, shooshing to sledge jumping and from drumming to dining on pea soup and bannock.  It was a jam packed day of mastery, belonging, generosity and independence as students celebrated their learning alongside their friends and teachers.  Thank you to our guests and the teaching team for providing such a rewarding experience to our Grade 7 students.

Student Voices:

·"If I could do one thing again it would be to play the drum and sing, because it was very fun and humbling." Carter

·"If I could do one thing again it would be making my paddle, because it was a way to channel my spiritual artistic side."  Sydney

·"The Indigenous games we played in the gym were fun and it was good work with others and meet different people.  I made a new friend."  Alex

·"My favourite thing about the day was shooshing because we all worked as a team."  Austin
