STUDENT MENTORSHIP AND ROLE-MODEL TUTORSHIP
Activities:
· SMART Group students volunteer to help with after school and lunch time activities within schools in the community.
· SMART Group students attend Aboriginal festivals and celebrations in the Winnipeg area.
· SMART Group students go on various field trips to help build their understanding of Aboriginal culture and history.
· SMART Group meet every Tuesday at noon in the open area. Students are provided lunch in a learning environment and
benefit from guest speakers who come to Kildonan-East Collegiate to share.
Goals:
· The goal of SMART is to foster student’s scholastic success and support.
· To have a positive impact on the community.
· To enhance each member’s self esteem.
· To help ensure students stay on a positive and healthy plan.
Benefits:
· SMART members can gain a full or half credit by volunteering in the community.
· SMART members benefit from the information that our speakers provide.
· SMART members feel a sense of belonging and acceptance that comes from being a part of a positive group.
· Student success is rewarded with prizes in recognition of good attendance and academic success.
