The Career Internship Program at River East Collegiate is an innovative partnership program designed to build transferable skills in youth, and assist in preparing them for an economy that demands a variety of skills and the ability to move between different jobs. CIP’s 3 Rs for the high school experience– to engage relevant curriculum, participate in real experiences, and be responsive to the needs of the world beyond high school – prepares students for successful high school transitions.
OBJECTIVES
Experience real workplace environments through an eight week internship from April to June.
Build a powerful resume, cover letter and employability portfolio.
Complete entrance requirements for universities or community college to keep post secondary options open.
Earn summer jobs with one of the CIP’s business partners such as Royal Bank, CIBC, Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, Manitoba Canola Growers, Great West Life, Winnipeg Fringe Festival, Birchwood Automotive Group, EISI, Manitoba Justice and many others.
Learn relevant software programs to ease transition to university, community college or the workplace.
Network with a wide array of business and volunteer organizations and learn proper protocol in dealing with a variety of professional people.
Participate in Covey 7-Habits workshops.
Volunteer Experiences. Community experiences with not-for-profit partners.
Develop an entrepreneurial spirit through workshops, the writing of business plans and attending the CIP Entrepreneurial Conference.
Manage projects, work in teams and communicate in both academic and business environments.
Build transferable skills for successful post high school experiences.
